International Justice Mission combats human trafficking through rescue operations, survivor aftercare, and justice system reform worldwide.
There is a moment in every rescue story where everything changes: the door opens, chains break, and someone walks out of captivity. International Justice Mission has built one of the most credible global systems for making that moment possible, again and again. At Freedom Place, we believe freedom must be tangible, measurable, and repeatable. IJM proves that rescue is not just emotional, it can be operationally excellent, legally enforceable, and scalable across entire regions.
Meeting the Catalyst
IJM was founded by Gary Haugen, a former human rights attorney and investigator who has seen what happens when evil goes unchecked and the vulnerable have no protection. His conclusion was clear: poverty is not only about lack of resources. It is also about lack of safety. Gary helped build IJM around a proven belief: when justice systems function, violence decreases. When laws are enforced, trafficking becomes harder to sustain.

Protectors in Action
IJM’s heroes are the investigators, lawyers, social workers, and aftercare teams who step into the darkest environments to bring people into freedom.
Their work includes:
Rescue Operations: Coordinated efforts with law enforcement to remove victims from exploitation and restrain traffickers.
Survivor Aftercare: Trauma-informed counseling, stabilization, and long-term restoration support.
Justice System Strengthening: Training and equipping local authorities so freedom lasts beyond one rescue.
Why Their Work Matters
Their model operates on the principle that rescue without prosecution only creates a "revolving door" of exploitation; without legal consequences, traffickers continue their operations with impunity. By pairing survivor restoration with the aggressive strengthening of local justice systems, IJM transforms trafficking from a low-risk, high-reward crime into one that is legally perilous and socially unacceptable. When police are trained and laws are enforced, the cycle of violence is broken, replacing a culture of fear with a permanent foundation of safety.

Freedom Place is inspired by IJM’s excellence and compassion on the front lines. May the Lord protect their teams, provide resources for every rescue and every court battle, and use their work to bring freedom and restoration to the vulnerable across the world.
